The Job: HistoryRiot is looking to appoint a director for our new site-specific show ‘1797’; a collaboration between HistoryRiot, The Old Royal Naval College and Tramshed. The show is being funded by Arts Council England and will be performed over four weeks in two spectacular attic rooms at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. After an R&D last year, 1797 is an ambitious, immersive show, co-created with local emerging artists & people with additional needs. The story follows a Greenwich Pensioner, who, after being cast away at sea, convalesces at Greenwich Hospital. There he is joined by a stuffed albatross who is out for revenge. Three actors guide audiences through a hyperrealist pensioner’s cabin to a liminal, abstract space where ensemble chaos ensues. The successful director will have experience of creating immersive or site-specific work. They will have a clear process and bold directorial vision. They will relish making work in a historical setting, whilst being mindful of the sensitivities of working in such environments. An ideal candidate would have experience of working with casts that include non-actors. We have three weeks of rehearsals from 19th September and four weeks of performances from 10th October to 15th November, all at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London. Some rehearsals will be scheduled flexibly to accommodate local people who are performing in the chorus. Further details, including a draft of the script are available upon request. You can see a video of our R&D here: https://youtu.be/RLPY2PcfdBs   How to apply: To express your interest in the role please send a covering letter or a short video (around 3 minutes) to mark@historyriot.co.uk outlining your experience and interest in the role alongside some links to a portfolio / examples of your work.   A shortlist of candidates will be invited to have an online interview with the creative team and producer. We can also arrange a tour of the space before confirming an appointment. Fee: £1,117 preparatory fee, plus £550.00 weekly payment for three weeks. Key dates: Rehearsals 19th Sep - 10th Oct 2022 (pencilled)
