Hi Theatre Deli Friends,
We hope you’re really well!
Last year, I asked if you would be interested in creating art for a card in our upcoming Theatre Deli Tarot Deck.
This is a completely voluntary opportunity which I hope will achieve 3 key aims:
-Celebrate 15 years of Theatre Deli’s existence filling empty spaces with meaning, community and art
-Celebrate the awesome artist talent and diversity of our artistic community
-Raise money for Theatre Deli’s ongoing charity work through sales of the deck
We now have 57 out of 78 cards complete, and just 21 left, and I wanted to give you one last chance to grab a card, make some art, and be part of the deck!
Why a tarot deck?
The tarot has lots of different meanings to different people, but it is often seen as an attempt to represent the full range of human and spiritual experience across 78 images. Drawing, learning and spending time with these images has provided and continues to provide solace, fascination and challenge to hundreds of thousands of people.
I don’t believe in any divinatory power held in the cards, but I do believe that the cards inspire wonder, which is how we often feel about Theatre Deli’s artists. This is a passion project for me, as I’ve always wanted to create a tarot deck, and I can’t imagine a better way to do it than with the fabulously talented individuals in our theatrical and artistic community.
What’s in it for you?

For the avoidance of doubt, this is a voluntary opportunity to support our fundraising and to create something which I hope will be really awesome - however there are no fees available for contributions.
I want to create a card! What do I have to do?
-Let us know here (https://eu.jotform.com/231982779157068) what card you’d like to create, of the cards that are still available.
-Create your card. We will provide a template in PDF & Photoshop format to everyone who chooses a card.
-Your art can be digitally created, painted, drawn, collaged, or
crayoned and it can include text if desired. It can be a response to the
artwork of the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, or your own interpretation of the card, or something completely abstract.
-Send us your artwork. You'll have our email contact once we send the templates If you didn’t use the templates we can edit your
artwork on your behalf. You can provide your artwork in person to me
(email to arrange or for details of our postal address), or provide a
high-quality digital copy by email or Google Drive. We will aim to collect all artwork for this project by the end of August this year.
Some fine print:
We would love you to consider the full range of people that might encounter these cards, and so avoid any very violent or sexually explicit imagery.
By sending us your image for the deck, you will be confirming that you own all the rights and permissions for your artwork, and that you provide us the right to use and sell the
image with the deck and in the marketing of this project. That means that AI-assisted artwork is unlikely to be usable - please ask if you have any questions on this. If there are any issues with your artwork we will be in touch to discuss them.
What if I’m not a visual artist?
We have loads of different artists in our community and we want this deck to reflect that. If you’re more comfortable with doodles or snapping a picture on a phone camera, that’s okay – and we’d still love to have your input. If, on the other hand, you’re into screen-printing or Adobe Illustrator, that’s amazing! And finally, if you have a great idea for a card but don't think you can realise it, we might be able to find someone who can, so get in touch.
If you want to contribute but will have any issues of access, please let me know!
Thank you,
David Ralf
